About the practice:
Chi Gong and Tai Chi have been practiced for hundreds of years. The idea behind the practices is a rediscovery of our natural body and the way our natural body moves. Humans move very differently to all other animals, we have become very focused in our upper body and head, forgetting about our legs and feet. Our movements have become uncoordinated. Chi Gong and Tai Chi redirect the attention and energy downwards, we rediscover that our natural way of being is more anchored in our legs and less in our head. Gravity is our strongest ally, in Chi Gong the main aim is to restructure the body so all the muscles can relax with gravity. By creating internal balance and structure the body doesnt have to struggle to hold itself and therefore we can move efficiently and in a relaxed way but connected and strong…much like a cat.

Chi Gong is usually static restructuring exercises, where as Tai Chi is about movement and stretching within the new structure. In the end Tai Chi can be used as a martial art, but this is in the later stages of practice. We begin with restructuring, balance and strengthening. Tai Chi form is beautiful and powerful and can be as strong a workout as anything when done right. Also the strength Chi Gong and Tai Chi provide allow all activities you do to be enhanced, from walking and lifting to surfing and fishing….when your natural body comes alive you will have all the energy you need and more.

David has been practicing Tai Chi and Chi Gong for 20 years in a variety of styles. Finally after years of searching he was able to find teachers that hold the roots of the tradition. David’s lineage is of the Chen family from Chen Yingjun and his father Chen Xiaowang of Chen Village, China, via David’s main teacher and mentor Mark Leonard of Bristol, U.K.

David offers instruction in Chi Gong and Tai Chi for beginners and people wishing too deepen into sensing the body, focusing on forming relaxation within a good solid structure which provides increased energy, strength and balance. He is passionate about this practice and simply finds it deeply healing. David has qualifications in Chinese medicine and was a clinician for many years but now prefers to help people to find health within themselves. He offers his practices as a way to do that and also provides consultation on “Intrinsic-health/ life coaching” that help people learn and rediscover their instinctive sense again.
