Through out of Europe there are huge differences when it comes to awareness towards travelers who are sensitive on milk or wheat containing products. While Italy seems to be quite easy to travel countries like Portugal are a bit tricky especially outside from cities.
In western algarve it is very hard to find any restaurant or coffee shops but as there still are quite a few of them i want share a few very good tips on this topic. Before that you’ll have to know that in this area the usual know sources for such informations are not really working. For some reasons neither Tripadvisor nor Glutenfreeroads.com is containing the information i was looking for.
A good choice in my point of view is the little village of Carrapateira which has just more than two places offering delicious food for persons with any kind of intolerance. The first place which i want to recommend is Trigo Vermelho. It is placed in the heart of the village offering inside and outside seating.
The other place is called Micro Bar, this place is located at the center of the village of Carrapateira. Even though it looks like a Bar and it is named like a Bar you will be overwhelmed by the variety of choice when it comes to food. This place will give you everything you need after a day on the beach, even if you don’t care about gluten.
Further north in the city center of Aljezur you will find Moagem. Even though the offers and menu is changing you will not want to miss out the opportunity to have some food here. If you ask everyone will be happy to guide you through the menu if you have any intolerance when it comes to food.
If you are heading to Arrifana or Vale da Telha connection then Bilal will be your first choice if you are looking for someone who can make you a meal which is free from gluten or even vegan. He is famous for his delicious Falafel and will be more then happy to give you a good time in a nice location with sea view at sunset.
Up in Rogil there is a new Vegan/ Vegetarian place called Onda Natural. Here you will find a huge menu which suits all your needs. No matter if you come for dinner or just for a coffee and some sweets. The menu is changing and always really good.
As you see we are very lucky to have this great choice for people who have a gluten or vegan diet. Lets hope that it will become more and more normal to have at least one vegan and gluten free meal on the menu.
If i missed out any place you would like to add, please let us know and we will be happy to add this place to our list.
